Meet Dana Geyer, Owner of The Book Lady
How long have you owned your business?
It will be 5 years in April 2022.
What was the inspiration to start your business?
As a lifelong reader and book lover, I would shop here in the summers when the previous owner ran the store, and I always thought it was the perfect job, in the best community, so when he put the building up for sale I jumped at the opportunity.
What is your favourite part of being a small business owner?
Being a part of the small business community in Fenelon Falls is really special – there’s a lot of support and camaraderie in the network of local businesses here, and it feels like being part of a very cool club.
What do you wish people knew about your business?
That I sell more than just books! I’ve recently started to expand my stock to offer some games and puzzles as well – everything you need for an entertaining weekend at the cottage.
Who is your greatest supporter?
Both my Mom and my Aunt Janis are tremendous supporters of mine – working in the store for me so I can sneak away to go camping, and collecting books for my inventory.
What are you most proud of about your business?
I am most proud of the changes I have been able to make over the years, from rejuvenating the stock of books I have available to a major exterior renovation. I have more improvements planned for the years to come, including a more accessible entryway and an interior facelift with fresh floors.
