Meet the Owners - Purdy’s
Q&A with Marylynn and Dave Lindsay
How long have you owned your business?
My aunt and uncle actually started the business, Sheila and Grant Purdy in 1944.
What was the inspiration to start your business?
I actually worked here as a student in the mid 70s and then we bought the business in 1985. So collectively we're celebrating 77 years between the two families.
What is your favourite part of being a small business owner?
Probably 80 percent of people who come into my door, I either know really well or at least recognize their face because I've seen them last year.
What do you wish people knew about your business?
A lot of our product that we carry has meaning. Behind the line everything we have has some sort of sentiment or story behind the piece so when you're giving it to someone there's a story behind the piece.
Who is your greatest supporter?
We're really appreciative of the local support from the surrounding area, not just in Bobcaygeon. They've been really great with us this year and the past two years and it's so appreciated just so much.
What are you most proud of about your business?
We are local, we're right here they don't they don't have to go to the city. We have a goldsmith that does his job right on premises which a lot of places do not have. I'm also a graduate gemologist so I do appraisals and I do them on site as well.
Describe yourself or your business in one or two words?
