Meet Susan King, owner of Pine Reflections Gift & Garden Centre

How long have you owned your business?

All season long I have been celebrating with monthly giveaways my tenth anniversary of owning Pine Reflections. This season of celebrating will end with a $1,000 cash prize drawn at Canoe FM Dec 17th just in time for Christmas.

What was the inspiration to start your business?

I worked in the hospitality industry for 25 years and found gardening a wonderful way to relax, de-stress and quiet the mind after engaging with people all day long. When I moved up to the Highlands from Toronto circumstances led me to work for Gina and Nigel Atkinson the previous owners of Pine Reflections and I fell in love with gardening all over again. When the opportunity to purchase Pine Reflections and make it my own was presented I jumped at the chance as I knew this was what I was meant to do and what I truly loved.

What is your favourite part of being a small business owner?

My favorite part of being a small business owner is being able to engage directly with my customers and my community. Over the years I have met so many amazing people that make up our rich and diverse community. I have learned so much about where I live its history and the people that call the Highlands home.

What do you wish people knew about your business?

I wish people knew despite popular belief; alpacas do not spit they reserve their spitting for other alpacas! I wish people knew I get almost as much pleasure and joy from my Gift Store the Gathering Spot at Pine Reflections as I do from providing beautiful plants and flowers.I love to source out unique gifts and creatively display them in my store.

Who is your greatest supporter?

I am very grateful to be well supported by my family friends and wonderful customers but my greatest supporters are my hard working staff I could not do what I do without them.
