Meet Sandra Patrick, owner of Down 2 Earth
How long have you owned your business?
We started the store (Down to Earth) in the spring of 1999.
What was the inspiration to start your business?
The inspiration was a combination of having a desire to be my own boss and also in a position to decide what my next move in life would be. My partner and I both had different ideas for what kind of shop we would like to run and we flipped a coin.
What is your favourite part of being a small business owner?
My favourite thing about being a small business owner is making choices and decisions that work out both economically for us and also make our customers happy.
What do you wish people knew about your business?
Our business relies on having a lot of knowledge about our products - we know that with the internet especially there is too much out there for people to choose from and it is easy for customers to be lured into wrong choices by slick marketing. We look at it as our job to wade through some of this for people and help them make product choices that really suit their needs.
Who is your greatest supporter?
My greatest supporter is my partner in both business and life. We have managed to work together every day and live together and not kill each other!
What are you most proud of about your business?
I’m proud of our business most when we have customers tell us they have been shopping here for over 20 years and have had a great experience with the equipment or apparel that we recommended to them.
